Officials at Bangor International Airport said severe winter weather delayed emergency response and recovery efforts following a fatal plane crash that killed six people, leaving the wreckage—and the victims' remains—at the scene for 72 hours.

The airport director deferred all questions on the status of the victims' remains to the medical examiner on scene and police.

Roland Steadham and one other person were aboard a small plane that crashed into the icy Payette River on Tuesday.

The NTSB said the aircraft had difficulty seeing each other before the crash.

The FAA said the aircraft went down during departure and was later consumed by a post-crash fire.
