An already sodden Far North Queensland could be at risk of more flooding as a tropical low builds off the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has warned a low, named 18U, over the water in the western Gulf has a moderate chance of strengthening into a tropical cyclone over the next week.

Tropical cyclone Luana has been named as it barrels towards the Western Australia coastline. The category one system briefly intensified to a category two on Saturday before being downgraded again as it was set to cross the coastline.
