Until the Stranger Things spinoff and animated series come to Netflix, fans can still enjoy the universe with the Stranger Things: The First Shadow play. The stage show — which was written by Kate Refry from an original story by the Duffer Brothers and Jack Thorne — has been running on Broadway since April 2025.

The Stranger Things season 5 finale ended the hit Netflix show on a seriously emotional note, with the party gathering to play D&D one final time in a poignant mirror of the show's first scene.

The main concern of The First Shadow is how a kid like Henry Creel can become a remorseless child-snatching monster like Vecna. And over the course of the play, Henry's actions get more and more violent, leading up to the big Creel Murders that were a focus of Stranger Things season 4.
