On Saturday night, we hosted a DUI checkpoint downtown. We had 1,478 vehicles pass through the checkpoint, with 340 cars screened by officers. Six people were arrested for driving under the influence at the night's end. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any DUI enforcement strategies while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
