Many autistic people use repeated movements like hand flapping or spinning, and/or repeated behaviours for sensory stimulation, to keep calm or to express joy. This is an example of one of the core characteristics of autism needed for a diagnosis. (NAS 2025) One of the early signs we had in Huxley was his obsessions with spinning objects, walking round in circles and flapping. He still spins every single day.
