#Spotlight: Myanmar’s opium poppy cultivation has hit its highest level in ten years, according to a new UN report. The area under poppy growing has jumped 17%, rising from about 111,700 acres to over 131,200 acres. The surge comes as civil war, poverty and economic collapse push farmers into the illicit drug trade. Myanmar is now the world’s leading source of illicit opium, with production topping one thousand metric tonnes. Heroin linked to Myanmar is also reaching Europe, prompting warnings o
