The palatine bone is a thin, L-shaped paired bone of the viscerocranium that primarily participates in the formation of the hard palate (together with the maxilla). Positioned at the back of the nasal cavity, it lies between the palatine process of the maxilla anteriorly and the pterygoid process of the sphenoid bone posteriorly. The palatine bone consists of two plates that are set at right angles to each other, forming the characteristic L-shaped form: 🔸Horizontal plate - horizontally oriente
