Snow continues to fall Wednesday morning as you can see in this video in Spokane. Chains are required for all vehicles except AWD/4WD over I-90 Snoqualmie Pass. So far we're seeing drivers do a pretty good job giving our plows room to work. Please keep it up, take it slow, follow traction requirements and be prepared for possible delays or closures. The forecast calls for snow basically through the weekend with a few breaks here and there. | WSDOT

UPDATE 12:30 p.m. Sunday: Work continues on reopening the passes and crews are managing massive amounts of snow and ice. I-90 Snoqualmie and US 97 Blewett passes will open later today, but we do not yet have an ETA. Please do not head out or start lining up at closure points until we provide an update in the early evening. When we are able to reopen passes it will be to get freight moving - any other trips should continue to be delayed as more work remains to make roads ready for general traffic

As we get closer to spring and begin to thaw out, we're seeing more animals use the wildlife crossings on I-90. In the first two weeks of March we've so far counted 10 coyotes using the new wildlife bridge east of Snoqualmie Pass. That's 10 fewer coyotes darting across the highway! | WSDOT

A growing state needs a smart transportation future – and rail is key. In the next two decades, millions more people will call this state home and demand for efficient, sustainable transportation will be greater than ever. That’s why WSDOT is updating the State Rail Plan. This provides guidance for how passenger and freight trains can help reduce congestion, enhance community safety and support economic and environmental goals. Girl Plower ✨ Meet the amazing all-female snowplow crew from our Southwest Region (think Vancouver, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Camas, Washougal) — all led by a plowerhouse supervisor. These women and the rest of our crews are helping keep our roads safe and clear all winter long. The best way to show them some love is to give them plenty of space (it’s not you, it’s me... ok it’s you, too). Don’t crowd the plow—slow down and give all of our crews room to work. Or werk. Good Friday morning. Today marks the end of National Work Zone Awareness Week, but not the end of the need to keep road workers safe. We often post about incidents that happen, but please watch our video to hear the experiences of some of our crew members who are out there daily working on our roads. We hope this reminds everyone that underneath their safety gear, these are real people with friends and family who want to go home safely every day. Please continue to do your part to help make that

One of the busiest areas for our snowplow drivers this week was around I-90 in the Spokane area. Here's a close-up view of our crews working to clear snow and ice. It's going to be a long winter so please continue to keep road crews safe. Slow down, be patient, give them room and let them help you get where you're going safely! | WSDOT

MONSTER WEEKEND INCOMING! We’re a little more than 24 hours away from FIVE closures taking place in the Seattle metro area along I-5, I-405, SR 167, SR 520 and Mercer Street (on-ramps to I-5). Yes, it’s going to be tough, even for us (we use these roads, too!) But, if you plan ahead, give yourself plenty of time, remember monsters aren't really real and consider transit options (especially if you’re heading into Seattle), there are ways to get through this scare-free! This PSA will tell you more

One of the other major challenges our crews try to handle this time of year is drifting snow, which can create whiteout conditions. Here's a look at our crews earlier this week dealing with drifting snow on US 97 about 15 miles south of Okanogan. This is a new area for this type of issue as a recent fire destroyed large sagebrush and trees, leaving little to keep the snow from being blown onto the road. Big thanks to our crews, these can be some really challenging and hazardous conditions. | WSD

We're seeing a lot of wildlife activity on the I-90 Snoqualmie Pass corridor lately. Here's a couple looks. The first is of four elk just after they crossed the new wildlife overcrossing from north to south Monday afternoon. A couple of them look like they had to work off a little extra energy. The second is a thermal video of a deer wading across Keechelus Lake and being tagged along with by a nearby beaver. | WSDOT

CLEARED 10:51 p.m.: All WB lanes of I-90 have reopened after an earlier crash just west of the Mercer Island Tunnel. ———- HEADS UP 🚨 All WB I-90 lanes are blocked near the Mercer Island tunnel due to a collision. State Patrol, IRT and other emergency responders are on scene, but traffic is not moving right now. No estimate when lanes will reopen. Please use alternate routes. | WSDOT

Building a highway underneath Seattle With a time-lapse camera mounted 54-feet high, you almost get a bird’s-eye view of work inside Seattle’s SR 99 tunnel. As the tunneling machine Bertha builds the tunnel, road crews are right behind – building the foundations, walls and the top deck of the double-deck highway drivers will travel on when the tunnel opens. Take a look. | WSDOT

Reminder! Plan for significant daytime delays approaching the State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 15. The bridge will reduce to one lane of travel while we replace a 16-foot hydraulic cylinder. We have to close one lane during the work for the large crane needed to lift the 6,000-pound piece of equipment out and replace it with a new one. We’re working in a tight space close to other critical parts on the bridge and need daylight to see. In this instance, the overhea

While Work Zone Safety Awareness month is winding down, our commitment to our road workers and work zone safety remain the same. We’ve shared stories of frontline crews, written blogs, shared photos and videos, talked with the media, lawmakers and ordinary folks like you and me! But the ongoing need to keep everyone safe remains unchanged. Road crews are spouses, children, grandparents, siblings and friends and they all deserve to go home to their loved ones at the end of their shifts. Please sl

Is it getting steamy in here or is that just the asphalt? 🥵 Come along for a look behind the scenes of a paving glow up on this stretch of I-5 near Olympia in August. It was part of the 82 miles of fresh, sparkly asphalt that crews laid around the South Sound and Kitsap Peninsula this summer. We hope you enjoy a smoother ride. 😎 We were busy aaaaall around the state this summer, to the tune of repairing 1.8 million square feet of pavement around Washington. I’m no mathematician, but that’s a l
