The Yao Mun (also called Lanten or Kim Di Mun) ethnic group from Northern Laos practice Taoism — a religion they adopted when still living in China, many generations ago. When a baby or child falls ill, the Yao Mun will use a spirit healer to appease the deities potentially causing the illness.
