The Scoppio del Carro ("Explosion of the Cart") is a unique 900-year-old Florentine tradition celebrating Easter. A historical cart, laden with fireworks, is pulled by white oxen through the city. A mechanical dove (colombina) is launched from the Duomo's high altar down a wire to ignite the cart, resulting in a spectacular explosion that marks the resurrection and is said to ensure a good harvest for the coming year. | History In Pictures
