The Zohar says we were originally pure, luminous beings before the fall brought us into flesh. But physical bodies gave us something light beings never had. Angels don't feel, don't sense, don't experience emotion the way we do. The fall wasn't just exile, it was access to sentience itself. And according to both Christian and Jewish mystical traditions, all of human history is about transcending that flesh and returning to what we originally were, carrying something we didn't have before.
